SHILLONG: The youth wing of KHNAM has set a deadline of February 21 for Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) to appoint the 772 jugali candidates.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Thomas Passah, president of KHNAM’s youth wing, said the candidates have been waiting for their appointment.
MeECL had earlier said the delay in declaring the result was due to corporation’s financial constraints. “Now that the results are declared, MeECL is holding up the appointment letters alleging that they are under police verification,” said Passah and added that there should be a provisional appointment prior to the verification. The KHNAM youth wing threatened to launch an agitation if the jugalis are not appointed within the stipulated time and said it would shortly approach Power Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar.
“The jugali candidates have over 10 years of experience. Their morale needs to be lifted,” said Passah and hinted that approaching the court would be the last resort. The candidates recently staged a demonstration in front of the MeECL gate demanding appointment letters from the State Government. The appointments are said to be done in phases – 336 appointments under phase-I, 233 each for phases II and III.
