NONGPOH: KHADC chief executive P.N Syiem said on Wednesday there is a need to uphold traditional values in order to preserve the tribal identity.
Syiem, who was addressing the gathering at the traditional dance programme ‘Shad Sajer’ in the sacred grove of Raid Nonglyngdoh at Mawiong in Ri Bhoi, said the State Government has failed to legislate laws for safeguarding traditional practices and “a time will come when our traditional values and culture will no longer exist”.
“There is no alternative to preserving our identity if we fail to preserve our traditional values and culture,” he added. The KHADC CEM lauded the initiative of Seng Pynneh Riti under Raid Nonglyngdoh for organising Shad Sajer.
Others who spoke on the occasion include the traditional chief of Elaka Nongpoh Sirdarship, Wanphrang Syiem, Chairman of Seng Pynneh Riti, Raid Nonglyngdoh, Henry Nongrum, and traditional chief of Raid Nonglyngdoh Sensy Lyngdoh.
