SHILLONG: The Ministry of Food Processing Industries, in association with the Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER), organised the North East Food Processing and Technology seminar at State Central Library on Monday.
The objective of the seminar was to disseminate information among prospective investors and investment partners from the region regarding the Government of India’s thrust area and to emphasise on new products and processes.
The seminar revolved around presentations and interactive panel discussions on various aspects of the importance of development of food processing and its challenges. The main topics that were discussed were horticulture scenario in Meghalaya and its prospects and food processing by K. Lyngdoh, Deputy Director of the Department of Horticulture. Pynkynmawlang Rymmai, Branch Manager of NEDFI in Shillong, spoke about the scope of food processing industry in the State.
An inspiring success story was also highlighted by a city-based entrepreneur, Phikaralin Wanshong, from M/s Kara’s Food Preservation.
M.B Roy, Director of Commerce and Industry, was also present. The seminar was followed by a one-on-one interaction between department officials and industry captains and participants.
