Accidents

On February 16, a Byrnihat bound loaded truck (AS01DD – 4762) overturned on a turning and fell into a gorge after it developed some technical snag. The truck was coming from Thahkanar when the mishap occurred at Mawrusyar under Nongstoin Block in West Khasi Hills. The driver of the truck, Prescodar Kharjana (31years/M) and the helper, Banpynsuklang Marwein (18years/M) sustained injuries and they have been shifted to Nongstoin Civil Hospital by the 108 Emergency Service Ambulance based in Nongstoin.

On February 16, in a hit and run incident, a pedestrian Arjun Basumatry (22years/M) sustained injuries after he was hit by a moving vehicle while standing near a bus shed at Malki Point in Shillong. The 108 Emergency Service Ambulance based in Shillong helped in shifting the injured to Shillong Civil Hospital.

On February 16, a motorist lost control of his motorbike and sustained injuries after he fell. The incident happened at Nakham Bazar in Tura under Rongram Block, West Garo Hills District.The 108 Emergency Service Ambulance based in Tura helped in shifting the injured motorist, Chamcham Marak (18years/M) to Tura Civil Hospital.

On February 15, one motor cycle (ML-11-1158) ridden by Dhiren Nongrum dashed against a road divider at Umling, Ri Bhoi district.The rider succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
ATM fraud
On February 14, a woman from Lumpyngngad, Motinagar, Shillong lodged a complaint that around 11 am, she received a phone call from one Sanjay Bhaskar, who introduced himself as a Bank official and asked about her ATM details. Later, she found out that Rs. 50,000 has been debited from her account.
