Yaws CC, Khalsa win in Shillong Cricket League
Shillong: The occult CC defeated Yaws CC by 28 runs in the Shillong Cricket League second division match played at cricket ground in Polo on Friday. Electing to bat first, Ocult CC scored 126 runs losing all their wickets in 20.1 overs in which Nathan scored 27 runs off 26 balls. For Yaws CC, Pritam and Ramesh took four and two wickets respectively. In reply, Yaws CC were bundled out for 98 runs in 23.1 overs. Sunil and Hemant scored 22 runs each. For Occult CC, Subham and Kaushik took three and two wickets respectively. Meanwhile, Khalsa Warriors defeated Rajbhawan by 60 runs in a third division match played here on Friday. Electing to bat first, Khalsa Warriors scored 184 runs losing six wickets in 20 overs. Kushaldeep scored 64 runs off 33 balls and Suraj scored 42 runs off 48 balls. For Rajbhawan, Wan and Kalinga picked up two wickets each. In reply, Rajbhawan were all-out for 124 runs in 16.5 overs. Sameer and Sanjay scored 25 runs and 16 runs respectively. For Khalsa, Suraj took two wickets while Mangal picked up one wicket.

Gujarat Lions appoint Kaif as assistant coach
New Delhi: IPL franchise Gujarat Lions on Friday appointed former Indian middle-order batsman Mohammad Kaif as its assistant coach for the upcoming season starting April 5. Speaking on appointment, Keshav Bansal, Director, Intex Technologies and Owner, Gujarat Lions said: “Kaif is a great resource for our team, who has valuable experience and in-depth knowledge of the sport. “The experience that he carries of the game, made us realise that he needs to be given larger roles as it will prove beneficial in our efforts to develop the game. I am confident that our team will benefit immensely from his guidance and mentorship.” Kaif said he is looking forward to the new role. “I am looking forward to my new role as an Assistant Coach in the team. It will be a great opportunity to work with a dynamic owner like Keshav Bansal and with an extremely talented players with likes of Raina, Ravinder Jadeja, Bravo etc.,” he said. (PTI)

Waveriders spank Punjab to jump to 3rd spot in HIL
Chandigarh: Delhi Waveriders produced an inspired performance to spank defending champions Jaypee Punjab Warriors 6-1 and jump to the third spot in the fifth edition of the Hockey India League (HIL), here on Friday. Penalty corner conversions by by Justin Reid-Ross (4th minute), skipper Rupinder Pal Singh (17th) helped the visitors take a 2-1 lead at half-time after Mark Gleghorne converted a set piece in the 30th minute for the hosts. Top-placed Dabang Mumbai have already qualified for the semis with 33 point from nine matches. (PTI)

U-12 football tourney held From Our Correspondent

TURA: The District Sports Officer (DSO) has informed that the department is organising the Chief Minister’s under- 12 Football Tournament at the Tura Stadium in Alotgre from March 11 for both boys and girls. The last date for submission of is March 3 however teams can also participate by reporting at the venue at 8 am on the same day. The tournament, which is open to all has no entry fee but players from all teams must be born on May 1, 2005 or after, the official added.

 Chess c’ship concludes
Shillong: The Inter CPSU CHESS Competition organised by NEEPCO from February 14 at Shillong under the aegis of Power Sports Control Board (PSCB) concluded on Friday. In the team event, NEEPCO was declared the winner and the second runners up were BBMB and THDC respectively. In the open individual events, Biswajit Phukan from NEEPCO bagged the first place while Ajit Kotia from Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) was declared second. Lalrinsanga from Central Electricity Authority (CEA) took the third spot.
