SHILLONG: The city that can boast of only two prominent parts — Ward’s Lake and Lady Hydari Park — is likely to get an urban park at Mawdiangdiang where the Government has acquired land for New Shillong Township.
The Tourism Department has proposed an urban park the tender for which was invited in 2015. However, work on the project is yet to start.
Sources in the Tourism Department said construction of the boundary wall would commence shortly even as it was informed that the project could not be taken up due to unavailability of suitable land.
However, the Urban Affairs Department finally handed over a suitable land of 40 acres to the Department for the park.
The sources also said the park would come up in a year but its landscaping and other amenities would be developed as the park grows. An urban park is a park in cities and other incorporated places to offer recreation and green space to visitors.
