SHILLONG: The North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Limited (NERAMAC), in association with the North Eastern Council (NEC), organised a national seminar on ‘Food Processing Investors’ Meet’ in the city on Friday.
The seminar was inaugurated by chief guest C.H Kharshiing, Planning Advisor to NEC. D. Khound, Economic Advisor to NEC, was the guest of honour.
Pankaj Kumar Prasad, managing director of NERAMAC, said food processing holds the potential for farmers of the North East. “NERAMAC is helping young entrepreneurs in marketing their produce. The response we have received is overwhelming,” he added.
NERAMAC executive director S. Bhattacharjee said Friday’s meet will give a new perspective to local entrepreneurs and farmers.
The first and second technical sessions on “Possibilities of Investment” were chaired and conducted by B.K Sohliya, OSD, Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship and Prof. Natalie West Kharkongor, IIM Shillong, respectively
“A lot of positive work is being done in this field and they need to be covered by the media so that it inspires many others,” said Kharkongor.
Presentations were given by D.V Malhan, Executive Secretary of AIFPA, Bidhan Das, Deputy Director, IIP-Kolkata, Ronn Pakrashi, North East Mega Food Park and other experts coming from across the country to share their rich experience.
