JOWAI: Three motorcycle-borne miscreants looted Rs 3 lakh from a petrol pump in Byndihati in East Jaintia Hills on Saturday evening.
According to East Jaintia Hills Police, the miscreants who looted the money from the NRL petrol pump in Byndihati were armed with sophisticated weapons.
The miscreants fired two rounds and police recovered two shells suspected to be fired from an AK-47.
“They immediately fled towards Khliehriat and on reaching Indian Oil Petrol Pump fired another two rounds before taking a reverse and fleeing towards Um-Tyr-a (from Khliehriat to Lumshnong) along the national highway,” police informed.
It may be mentioned that this is the third such incident this month. On February 9, armed three miscreants had looted Rs. 9 lakh from a petrol pump in Dhiah in East Jaintia Hills.
Again on February 10, three motorcycle-borne miscreants looted Rs 2.5 lakh from a petrol pump at Phramer-Shangpung road.
Police are yet to make a breakthrough into any of the incidents even as those running petrol pumps are apprehensive of more such attempts on the part of the miscreants.
