TURA: Former chairman of the now disbanded ANVC-B outfit, Bernard N. Marak, has petitioned the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) to abolish Mauza X in Tura saying that it does not come under the purview of the Sixth Schedule. Marak has also accused the council of illegally occupying land belonging to the A’king Nokma. “Tura, which is part of Danakgre A’king, was made to believe as Khas land which, through documental evidence, is proven wrong and is a violation of the rights reserved under the Sixth Schedule.
“GHADC is not the owner of the land that it can issue patta to any individual. Patta is not the legal document for A’king land as franchise of land lies only in the Nokma who has to give consent in these matters,” said Marak in his letter to the Executive Member for Land revenue in GHADC Wenison Ch Marak.
The former ANVC-B chief alleged that the district council had issued a patta to the Tura Municipal Board which is a violation of the Land Acquisition Act because the board is a state entity that restricts it from owning land.
“GHADC must cancel all pattas issued to government departments, especially pattas issued to the Tura municipal board as it violates the Land Transfer Act, 1955, (GHADC) 1975 (state) and Land Acquisition, Act 1894. Or else, we will be compelled to move court for rectification and compensation,” said Marak who also raised the issue of eviction by the government at Megong Boldak to Dakopgre and Rongkha Chiring to Rishipara.
