SHILLONG: The KSU has expressed shock over the MoU signed between the Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) and the Executive Committee (EC) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on January 12, 2006, headed by then Chief Executive Member (CEM) H.S Shylla.
In a statement to the press, the union reiterated its opposition to uranium mining in the State.
Pointing to the surreptitious deal between the then KHADC EC and UCIL, the KSU criticised Shylla for trying to facilitate the mining in the name of road construction in West Khasi Hills.
“Shylla claimed that the MoU was signed only to facilitate the road project but the union found out that he has allowed mining of uranium,” the statement said.
“The union no longer trusts Shylla who is an indecisive person and his action reveals that he cares less for the people,” KSU said.
