Mukul inaugurates multi-facility centre in SWGH

AMPATI: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Monday inaugurated a multi-facility centre at Darong Adu in Purakhasia in South West Garo Hills.
Sangma also gave an ambulance and a medicine truck to the primary health centre under the Border Area Development Programme.
The multi-facility centre was sponsored by SPA 2012-13 while the medicine truck and the ambulance were donated to the PHC under the Border Area Development Programme.
The centre can be used for trainings in various government programmes and also for social activities in the area.
Addressing the gathering at the inaugural programme, Sangma said the State Government is making huge investments in education and healthcare.
He also urged people to utilise the benefits of all government schemes and programmes.
“If we are able to improve the socio-economic conditions of the people, everything else will fall in line,” he said.
Later, the Chief Minister along with other dignitaries also distributed jerseys and sports kit to the schools and clubs of the area under Border Area Development Programme.
Speaking as the guest of honour, Government Chief Whip W.D Sangma said Rs.4.80 crore has been sanctioned for a new irrigation project in the area and also requested the Chief Minister to give go-ahead for the construction of the remaining 7km of road connecting Purakhasia with the district headquarters.
The Darong Adu Development Committee submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister on the occasion highlighting its demands, including the creation of a civil subdivision in the area.
