Rape cases on the rise in Jaintia Hills

JOWAI: Rape cases in Jaintia hills both East and West are on the rise. Police in West Jaintia Hills have registered three cases on Monday following complaints from victims and their families.
West Jaintia Hills Police on Monday received a complaint that a 22-year-old girl from Mookhangiung village was raped by one Juh Siangshai of Mookabeng village on February 16.
The accused entered the house of the victim at around midnight and committed the crime.
In another case, a mentally retarded woman of Sahsniang  A village was allegedly raped by one Dame Lamare of the same village on January 29.
The victim informed her family members of the incident only on February 16. The incident took place inside an illegal saw mill near the victim’s residence.
In another incident, one Show Langshiang of Moorap village has raped a 21-year-old girl of Rakabah village on February 18 near a hut at a place called Skong. The incident took place at around 3:30 pm.
