NGO wants probe into timber smuggling

SHILLONG: Achik Youth Council (AYC) has asked the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner to conduct a magisterial probe into the smuggling of timber.
In a petition submitted to DC, the NGO has also stressed on the need to put a blanket ban on the transportation of all illegal forest goods to the neighbouring state Assam.
The NGO while expressing concern over the smuggling of timber said that the smugglers have stolen forest goods several times from the same routes where check posts are situated.
AYC also questioned that how do the smugglers manage to commit the crime and escape with the check posts stand.
