SHILLONG: Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited does not have sufficient funds to repair or replace old electric poles, a statement from the discom said.
There are several rusty poles in the city, especially at Zigzag, and might be uprooted by strong winds. Some don’t have grouting.
An official with the power distribution company said “the budget is not enough to repair all”.
The corporation, he said, had directed all related functionaries to promptly act on complaints so that accidents could be averted.
The office of the East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner has issued an advisory on safety measures during windy weather and asked residents to get electricity wires checked and cut down dead branches and trees.
