KSU Ranikor Circle expresses dismay over power cuts
SHILLONG: The Khasi Student’s Union , Ranikor Circle has expressed dismay at the frequent power cuts at Ranikor, Phodkroh and other adjacent areas especially when students are preparing their examinations.
In a statement to the press, the union demanded the Power department authorities to look into the matter.

Teenage boy missing  from Ri Bhoi
Nongpoh: Franky Syngkli, aged 17-years -old hailing from Pahamsohthri village in Ri Bhoi District went missing from his school on Wednesday. He is a class 9 student of St Francis Residential School, Umbir.
While informing the incident to the correspondent his family members  alleged that he was kidnapped by his father named Manoj Sinha from Manipuri Bashupuria village of Silchar, Assam.
They also informed that Franky had told his clasmates that he will be going to stay with his father just hours before he went missing. Manoj Sinha divorced his mother Aisimon Syngkli a few years back. Since then his location was unknown.
The family members had filed an FIR at Umiam Police Station. Anyone who has any knowledge on the whereabouts of this boy can contact his family members in this number 8014282108.

FKJGP concerned over commuters’ safety
JOWAI: Vertical earth cuttings at several places along the Jowai-Malidor road in East and West Jaintia Hills may put commuters at risks.
FKJGP leader Tuesday Lytep said that the company executing the road project has failed to take into account that such ‘vertical cutting of hills’ may lead to landslides thus putting the commuters at great risk.
The FKJGP has asked both the deputy commissioners of both East and West Jaintia Hills to take up the matter with the construction company.

Two-day conference on quality education inaugurated
Shillong: A two-day national conference, Quality education in the Present Education Scenario organised by NERIE – NCERT, was inaugurated at NERIE- Umiam on Thursday.
The Principal of NERIE, Prof A Sukumar welcomed the guests reiterating on the significance and necessity of promoting quality Education.
Prof Subhas Chandra Roy, Dean-Academic, NERIE who gave the inaugural speech emphasised that although one factor alone does not determine quality education, yet the classroom is certainly the crucible of education which should have an enabling environment for transformative citizens of tomorrow.
Prof N. Promodini, Director Women Studies Centre, Manipur University who gave the key note address mentioned how India has made tremendous strides in the past decades in education, but the emphasis has been mainly in quantity and quality is still an issue of concern. In particular she emphasised on better infrastructure, trained teachers and technology to equip students with the desired competency to face the global challenges but also as a medium for fostering global peace.

4 best innovators to represent SWGH in State meet
AMPATI: The first ever District Level Innovators Meet was held on Thursday at Ampati in South West Garo Hills. The main objective of the meet was to create a platform to encourage innovators and tap their potential in creating resourceful yet problem solving ideas, devices etc. It was sponsored by National Innovation Foundation, India and State Council of Science, Technology and Environment, Meghalaya, Shillong in collaboration with the District Planning Office, Ampati.
SWGH Deputy Commissioner Cyril V D Diengdoh while addressing the gathering directed the Basin Development Unit (BDU),  Entrepreneur Resource Persons (ERPs) to interact with grass root level innovators to tap the potential. He assured that similar platforms would be created in the future to encourage ingenious ideas and inventions.
He also handed over certificates and cash to the four best innovators of the meet and also gave certificates of participation to participants.
The four best innovators will be representing the district at the State Level meet that will be held at Shillong on February 27.
Participants from across the district showcased their ingenious devices created from raw materials to secure livelihood opportunities and also solve day to day problems.
The meet was attended by ADC & District Planning Officer H D B Sangma, SP, Ramesh Singh, among others.

Intellectual property rights awareness seminar held
Shillong: The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) in association with Intellectual Property Office, Government of India organised an awareness seminar on Intellectual Property Rights at St. Anthony’s College here on Thursday. The seminar aimed at promoting discussion of the role of intellectual property in encouraging innovation and creativity amongst students and academia.
Speaking on the occasion, PK Bagchi, IP Attorney, Bureau of Patents and Trademarks and Member-FICCI-IPFC talked about the role of innovation and creativity and also how the IP system drives the technological innovation, flourishing of art and culture, bringing about socio economic changes that helps shape the world.
Among others, Fr. Saji Stephen, Vice Principal, St. Anthony’s College stated that FICCI is doing a commendable job in spreading awareness regarding IPR in the north east where IPR is still in its nascent stage.
