JOWAI: Two persons, one of whom is an employee of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), have been arrested for possessing contraband.
A team from the special cell of Jowai police arrested Felex Bthuh, who works in JHADC, and Rudy Sutnga, an employee of the veterinary office in Jowai, from 7th Mile (Hynniewmer) in West Jaintia Hills around 8.30pm on February 22.
Jowai police seized 7gm of drugs in six tobacco tin containers from the duo’s possession. They are suspecting that the contraband is heroin.
The police also found six empty vials, two syringes, three mobile phones and Rs 4,900 in their possession.
Police said the duo was produced in a local court on Friday and was remanded in 14-day judicial custody.
Bthuh is the son of former JHADC deputy chief J.U Nongrum. His recruitment in the Council is allegedly illegal.
A warden of Shillong District Jail, Kishan Gurung, was arrested earlier this month for drug peddling. He was later suspended.
