SCL Super Division final match postponed
Shillong: The final match of the Super Division Shillong Cricket League between TNT Sputnik CC and United XI scheduled for Monday is postponed due to unavoidable circumstances. The Shillong Cricket Association informed that fresh dates will be announced later.
Bayern crush Hamburg, Leipzig beat Cologne
Munich: Robert Lewandowski led the way with a hattrick as FC Bayern Munich hammered Hamburger SV 8-0 in a rather one-sided clash in the Bundesliga football championship here. In the other match in the German top division on Saturday evening, Leipzig reaped their second consecutive win after beating Cologne 3-1, reports Xinhua news agency. Table toppers Bayern showed no mercy with Hamburg as the German giants whitewashed the visitors, scoring thrice in the first half half and five times after halftime. Hamburg worked out the first chance of the game as Douglas Santos pulled just wide following a corner in the 13th minute. But the hosts broke the deadlock 17 minutes into the game after Arturo Vidal poked home Thomas Mueller’s square pass. Bayern needed another seven minutes to double the lead as Lewandowski smashed a penalty into the bottom right corner. (IANS)
Pacquiao to fight Britain’s Khan in April
Manila: Philippine boxing hero Manny Pacquiao and British fighter Amir Khan confirmed separately on Sunday that they would face each other on April 23 after weeks of conflicting reports. Pacquiao tweeted: “Negotiations between team Pacquiao and team Khan have come to terms for the April 23 bout as this is what the fans wanted.#PacquiaoKhan” Khan, 30, a few minutes later posted on his official Twitter feed: “My team and I have agreed terms with Manny Pacquiao and his team for a super fight #pacquiaokhan #April23rd” Neither of them gave a venue for the match but Pacquiao’s American promoter, Bob Arum, has previously been quoted as saying on the ESPN website, that “Manny is trying to get a fight done in the United Arab Emirates, and the people there favour him fighting Amir Khan.” (AFP)
Saina to represent Olympic Committee in BWF
Hyderabad: Adding another feather in her cap, star shuttler Saina Nehwal, who was appointed a member of the International Olympic Committee’s Athletes’ Commission (AC) last year, would be representing the panel in the Badminton World Federation (BWF). She would join the BWF Athletes’ Commission as a representative of the IOC AC, IOC said in a communication to Nehwal. Nehwal has received an official communication in this regard. (PTI)
