SHILLONG: Teachers from South West Khasi Hills under the banner of All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers’ Association (AMSSASTA) have demanded payment of salaries through banks to avoid delays.
A delegation of teachers led by president Berding Lyngdoh and secretary B. Myrthong met W. Biam, District Mission Coordinator of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan-State Education Mission Authority Meghalaya (SSA-SEMAM), on February 23.
In a statement, the delegation said salary is often delayed because school managing committees pay them in cash after deductions.
The teachers’ association also stated that other districts adopted the system of paying through banks almost a year ago but South West Khasi Hills has not implemented it.
To this, Biam said since it was a new district, the process of routing salaries through banks was taking time. However, he assured that it would be implemented at the earliest, the statement said.
On the other hand, the Association in a meeting elected new office bearers. Berding Lyngdoh as president, B. Myrthong as secretary, vice president K.D. Wanniang, assistant secretary- W Thongni besides others.
