Driver killed in accident after avoiding excise staff

SHILLONG:  A driver, who tried to avoid the excise staff after he was asked to stop,  succumbed to his injuries after his vehicle collided with a truck on February 9, a delayed  report said.
E. Dkhar, Assistant  Excise Inspector, Mairang filed a complaint that while she and her staff were conducting vehicle checking at Wahlakhaw village (West Khasi Hills), one vehicle (ML-06-7301) driven by Simon Lyngkhoi, ignored their signal and sped away from the spot.
Following this, the officials chased the vehicle and on reaching near Sangshong junction in the same district, the vehicle collided with one truck.
As a result, the driver and occupants sustained injuries and were shifted to CHC Mairang.
Later, the driver was referred to NEIGRIHMS, where he succumbed to his injuries.
