Kolkata: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)–Eastern Region of Kolkata’s Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals– Rupali Basu on Thursday quit her post as the hospital faces a government inquiry and police case for alleged excess billings, extortion and coercing the patient party for realizing dues.
Apollo Hospital in a communique on Thursday said Dr Rupali Basu, director, eastern region has resigned. In place of her Dr N Satya-bhama, director southern region, has taken additional charge and Rana Dasgupta has taken charge of Apollo Gleaneagles Hospitals.
However, efforts to make a contact with Dr Rupali Basu failed. It was not know known whether Ms Basu quit or was forced to leave the hospital which is facing largescale allegations of excess billings of treatment, coercing the patient party to pay all dues, even by depositing FD certificates despite death. Apollo Gleneagles was facing police case after Ruby Roy, widow of Sanjoy Roy, filed an FIR with the Phoolbagan police station stating that negligence of the hospital in the treatment and delay of release of her husband due to payment caused death of Sanjoy Roy last week. The West Bengal government also set up a probe 6-member committee under special secretary Subir Chatterjee to inquire all aspects of medical negligence with the private hospital located on EM Bypass on eastern Kolkata. Sanjay Ray, a 30-year-old man from Dankuni in West Bengal’s Hooghly district, was injured in a road mishap on February 16 and was admitted in Apollo hospital that evening. (PTI)
