Teacher’s body demands release of pending arrears
SHILLONG: A delegation of Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA) on Thursday met the State Project Director (SSASEMAM) Ambrose Ch. Marak ,  to demand the release of pending Arrears w.e.f 1st April to December 2016.
Aristotle C. Rymbai, president of the association said that they are aggrieved by the act of the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of India of not transferring the 2nd installment of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to the state. He added that arrears of the 12481 trained and untrained SSA supported school teachers  is still pending.
The MSSASA , requested the authority to find out ways and means to solve the problems faced by the 12481 SSA teachers in the State and to release the arrears within the financial year 2016-17 i.e is before March 31.
He added that failure to do so will forced the association along with the SSA teachers and their families to  to protest for their rights.

Lawyers’ association formed in EJH
JOWAI:  An association of lawyers has been floated in East Jaintia Hills District to uphold and protect the privileges, rights, interests and prestige of the lawyers practicing in Khliehriat Court.
The Khliehriat Bar Association has been formed with Shitmon Pdang as president, Esther Nongtdu as vice-president and Kerlang Ksoo as general secretary to take responsibility for regulation of the legal profession under its jurisdiction and to serve the cause of its members.
The association will organise legal awareness, seminars, symposia, discussions and debates on contemporary issues of social and legal relevance in schools and colleges and will also provide legal aid to the poor citizens.

Truckers’ body accuse FKJGP of blackmail
SHILLONG: The Nongal-Dobu Coal Truck Owners Association has accused the FKJGP of trying to blackmail truckers by accusing them of violating Supreme Court and NGT orders.
The truckers’ body while rubbishing allegations made by the FKJGP and the Save NH-62 Mission Committee that the truckers were overloading the vehicles said, “We have neither violated the Supreme Court order which restricted the load to 9 metric tonnes nor the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order.  The FKJGP is only trying to blackmail us as they have many times approached the trucks for collection of money on the pretext of maintaining designated parking place.”
The Association also questioned the credentials of the Save NH-62 Mission Committee.
Earlier, the two organisations had petitioned the North Garo Hills district administration asking it to take immediate steps to stop overloaded coal trucks from plying on the crucial NH62.
The Save NH-62 Mission Committee and the FKJGP had also accused transport officials of turning a blind eye to the violation of the NGT order along the route.

HQ Eastern Air Command gets new Senior Air Staff Officer
Shillong: Air Marshal Rajesh Kumar VM has taken over as the Senior Air Staff Officer at HQ Eastern Air Command, Shillong from March 1.  He is an alumnus of Mayo College, Ajmer and National Defence Academy and was commissioned in the Indian Air Force (IAF) in June 1982 as a Flying Pilot.
He is a Cat ‘A’ Qualified Flying Instructor, Instrument Rating Instructor and an Air Force Examiner. In addition to various staff appointments at Air HQ, the Air Officer has commanded a front line Fighter Squadron and a front line Fighter base.
He is also a graduate of Air Command and Staff College at Montgomery, Alabama as well as College of Defence Management at Secunderabad. He was the team leader of Air Force Project Monitoring Team for AWACS at Israel. Before his present appointment he was Director IAF PMT, ADA. For his distinguished service, he was awarded Vayu Sena Medal for Gallantry during Op Parakram.

Cancer treatment at Shillong civil hospital  
SHILLONG:  The Joint Director of Health Services (SS), Civil Hospital, Shillong informed all concerned cancer patients that the government  has allowed Dr. Lurstep Wanshnong  to perform Onco-Surgery Services at Civil Hospital, Shillong from March.

Blood donation camp for WKH victims
SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) in collaboration with NSS Unit of Seng Khasi College Shillong organised a Blood Donation Camp on Thursday at the Blood Bank of NEIGHRIMS Shillong to help the accident victims of the February 26 incident who are undergoing treatment in different hospitals in Shillong and Nongstoin.
Eighteen members of the HNYF and NSS Unit of Seng Khasi College and other well-wisher have donated their blood on this day. HNYF has also extended its condolence to the bereaved families in which 17 people passed away in the tragic bus accident.

Cleaning drive to mark 150 years of Tura town
SHILLONG: A cleaning drive and awareness campaign will be organised by the District Administration, West Garo Hills as part of 150 years of Tura Town under Swachh Bharat Mission, Tura Municipal Board in collaboration with  Amma Bhagawan Seva Samithi, Meghalaya.
The cleaning drive will be held on  March 4  from 6:30 AM onwards at Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Market area and Dobasipara Bus Stand.
In order to maintain cleanliness in and around town, the district administration have urged residents who are residing near the market area and Dobasipara locality, NGOs, scouts and guides to participate in the cleaning drive and awareness programme.
Seminar on recent trends in tribal literature of NE India held
TURA: A seminar on Recent Trends in Tribal Literature of North-East India was organised by the Sahitya Akademi in collaboration with the A’”chik Literature Society (ALS) and Departments of Garo and English at NEHU Tura Campus on Wednesday.
The seminar was inaugurated by Prof D Kuolie of Nagaland University on February 28, where he emphasised the importance of preservation and development of language and literature of each tribe and the role of research in this field.
Prof Sujata Gurudev from the Department of English and acting Pro-Vice Chancellor appreciated that Sahitya Akademi has an archive of every language in India and its efforts to preserve them.

Safety rules should be followed in the upcoming Synod
JOWAI: In view of the tragic incident on February 26 in West Khasi Hills which have claimed 17 lives and many injured, the Superintendent of Police, DSB, West Jaintia Hills has requested the believers who are coming for the upcoming Synod to be held at Mihmyntdu and Ummulong respectively to follow safety rules and not to travel in Trucks/Goods Vehicles/ Pick-Up Trucks and other non-passengers vehicle.
Unnecessary overtaking especially at sharp curves and turning, over-speeding should be avoided. They should wear seat belts, they should not use mobile phones while driving and sitting capacity should also be maintained in the vehicle.
The believers are also requested to start early so as to prevent any haste while travelling, they may also be information about their exact location for parking. Drunken driving should be avoided to prevent any untoward incident. They are to follow and obey traffic rules and drive cautiously.

Dancers demand recognition
SHILLONG: Around 20 members from the All Meghalaya Dancer’s Association (AMDA) organised a sit in demonstration on Thursday at the Additional Secretariat parking lot demanding recognition and financial assistance for  performing artistes from the state government.
Speaking to reporters during the demonstration, president of the association, Kitbok Thabah, said, “We urge the state government to recognize our association as a semi-government entity. Since the government has recognised traditional dances, it should also recognise modern dance.”
Thabah also expressed surprise that till that there was no dancing institute in the State.

Youth training
Shillong : The William Carey University, Shillong will organize a training on Youth Leadership and Community Development Programme (TYLCD) in collaboration with Nongmynsong Youth Development Organisation (NYDO), BDO Office Mylliem C&RD Block and Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Shillong, at the University campus at Umkdait, Nongmynsong from March 7 to 11.

26-yr-old man missing
SHILLONG: A 26-year-old mentally challenged man went missing from his residence in Laban. Ashok Kumar deb, brother of Subhash, a resident of Dhobighat in Laban, went missing on February 13. He is 6-foot tall and has a mole on the left cheek.
