TURA: The Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination of the Meghalaya Board School Education (MBOSE) began on Thursday with as many as 52,105 students sitting for the examination at different centres in the State.
MBOSE Controller of Examinations, T R Laloo said that the examination was functioning smoothly up till noon with no cases of cheating, expulsion or question paper leakages being reported from any of the examination centres.
There are a total of 24,211 male candidates and 27,849 female candidates out of which 23,038 come under the “regular 1 category” (schools affiliated to MBOSE) and 12,412 are from “regular 2” (schools unaffiliated to MBOSE).
Similarly, there are a total of 2029 “private 1” candidates and 10,636 “private 2” candidates while 3990 are complementary candidates.
In Garo Hills, there are a total of 57 examination centres while 77 are located in the Khasi-Jaintia hills region.
The Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examination will begin on Friday in which a total of 32,980 candidates, including teacher candidates will appear.
Teacher candidates refer to those elementary school teachers who have passed the 10+2 examination but failed to secure the required percentage of marks.
These teachers have been teaching in various government-run schools and they have been given a second chance to secure the required percentage so that their services can be retained.
There are a total of 58 examination centres in Khasi-Jaintia region and 43 examination centres in Garo Hills which include special centres.
A total of 11,952 male and 14,934 female candidates will sit for the examination in the Arts stream, 1876 male and 1917 female candidates in the Science stream, 1452 male and 842 female candidates in the Commerce stream and 4 male and 3 female in the Vocational stream.
