SHILLONG: The Khasi-Jaintia Presbyterian Synod Mihngi has said it did not authorise its pastors to be part of the committee of pastors who are opposing the Meghalaya Compulsory Registration of Marriage Act. In a statement issued here on Thursday, Rev. C. Syiem, senior executive secretary, KJP Synod Mihngi said that the Synod did not extend its support to the pastors who filed a writ petition challenging the Meghalaya Compulsory Registration of Marriage Act.
“Instead the Synod will deliberate on the difficulties faced by members of the congregation and will approach the authorities on the matter to sort out the same across the table,” the statement said.
Earlier, Rev. J.M Nongpluh, convener of the meeting of the pastors held on Tuesday, had said that KJP Synod Mihngi was part of the meeting which opposed the state marriage rule.
