SHILLONG: Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Cherrapunjee (Sohra), celebrated the 182nd birth anniversary of Ramakrishna Paramhansa on the ashram premises on Saturday.
Around 5,000 people, including students, devotees and villagers from Khasi and Jaintia Hills, participated in a procession that started at 9am. A decorated chariot of the Paramahansa was taken around Khliehshnong and Mariakaphon villages.
Addressing a gathering at a cultural programme that started around 11.45am, Art and Culture Minister Ronnie V. Lyngdoh lauded the Ashram in Sohra for its “selfless services to locals”.
Biloris Lyndem, president of RKM Sohra, highlighted the universal philosophy of Ramakrishna Paramahansa.
The cultural programme, which ended at 5pm, included phawar, skit and colourful tableaux prepared by feeder schools under RKM Sohra.
