New DGP to be named soon

SHILLONG: The State Security Commission will finalise the name of the full-fledged DGP soon, said Chief Secretary K.S Kropha on Monday.
The Commission met here on Monday to discuss the list of five senior police officers who are eligible for the top post.
Kropha said after the meeting that it should not take long to finalise the appointment of the DGP. The final name will be sent to the government for approval.
The five eligible IPS officers for the DGP’s post are Y.C Modi (1984 batch), P.S Purohit (1985 batch), R.P Agrawal (1986 batch), Raghvendra Awasthi (1985 batch) and S.B Singh (1986 batch) who is the acting DGP.
The Commission also reviewed law and order and the functioning of the police, besides the action taken on the last proceedings of the meeting were also discussed in the meeting.
After DGP Rajiv Mehta retired last year, S.K Jain was appointed as acting DGP. Following the retirement of Jain, Additional DGP (law and order) S. B Singh took over as the acting DGP on October 30 last year.
