Financial aid to WKH accident victims

NONGSTOIN: Members of the Hima Nongstoin Coal Traders Land Owners & Producers Association on Tuesday donated a sum of Rs 1000 each to the families of the 83 victims of Nginiong, Mawbyrkong and Nongbudum villages.
19 people lost their lives and over 60 suffered injuries, some grievous, in the accident that occurred on the morning of February 26 on NH 44(E) at Nonglang village in West Khasi Hills District.
The association also expressed its condolences to the bereaved families of the 19 people who lost their lives in the accident and others who were injured.
The donation was received by the Sordar of the three villages on behalf of the beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, latest details about the accident emerging from the villages reveal that there were 84 persons travelling on the truck including the driver. Six of the dead passengers were from Mawbudum village, four from Nginiong village and nine hailed from Mawbyrkong.
