Govt to push for early completion of power projects

SHILLONG: The government on Tuesday assured that all efforts will be made to speed up the completion of as many as 14 power projects entrusted to private players in the State. The government is incurring a monthly expenditure of Rs 27 crore for purchasing power in the absence of timely execution of projects.
In reply to a call attention moved by Titosstar Chyne (UDP) in the Assembly on the pending power projects, Power Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said that monitoring committee meetings will be held frequently to ensure proper progress of the projects.
“Notices will be issued against the developers of the projects if there is undue delay,” he said.
According to the power minister, the government will also increase the efficiency of MeECL in respect of distribution and transmission.”There is a need to bring down distribution losses and expedite project implementation to increase our own generation,” he said.
MLAs want new schemes before poll
At least two legislators are eager to get schemes to their constituencies ahead of the Assembly polls.
During the question hour in the Assembly on Tuesday, K P Pangniang (HSPDP) wanted to know about the creation of new health sub centres at Langpih and Nongriat.
After Health Minister Roshan Warjri informed that both the health sub centers have been approved and the process of obtaining sanction was awaited, Pangniang from Rambrai Jyrngam constituency said that he wanted the schemes before elections. To this, the Minister said that she cannot give any assurance on whether the project will be sanctioned before the polls. Another legislator Witting Mawsor, also from HSPDP, said that some sports schemes should be extended to his constituency (Mawshynrut) in view of the elections.
Mawsor asked Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Zenith Sangma to provide the new schemes to his constituency. “Nothing was done in my area. Give one or two schemes to my constituency,” he said.
