SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said on Friday the proposed engineering college in Shillong and a college of architecture and urban planning in Tura have been approved and construction will start shortly.
Replying to the discussion on the Governor’s address, Sangma said with more investment in setting up educational institutions in the State, Shillong will once again become the hub of education in 10-15 years.
Stressing on the need to reverse the trend of students leaving Meghalaya for education, Sangma added that the students go out of the region not by choice but out of compulsion.
“There is scope for investment even from private sectors,” he said.
On frequent road accidents, Sangma pointed out that fast-driving is a major reason for mishaps.
Calling for an integration of all    departments while constructing roads, Sangma said all accident-prone areas in the State is being mapped. He also said the matter pertaining to road safety has been taken up by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, besides NHAI.
