SHILLONG: Congress MLA Sengnam Marak lodged a counter FIR on Saturday against the doctor who alleged that he was tortured by the legislator at gunpoint on Friday.
In the FIR lodged with the Officer in charge of Rongjeng police station in East Garo Hills, the legislator said on March 5, around 1.30-2 am, while he was busy with the people of his constituency after a function at Rongjeng PWD rest house, five unidentified persons were creating ruckus in the adjacent room.
“On enquiring, I was told that these five unknown persons, who created nuisance claimed to be from the Malaria Department of the State of Assam who had come to Rongjeng for research. I requested them to show their identity proofs but they could not produce anything to substantiate their claim,” Marak said in the FIR.
The MLA said in his complaint that he informed the local police over phone. Police arrived immediately.
“The police too asked these persons to produce their identity proofs, but still they could not do so, hence they were taken to the police station. After that I left the rest house, leaving the matter to be solved by the police,” Marak said.
The MLA said around 10 am on March 5 he received a call on his mobile from one of his supporters who told him that Dr Sandipani Malla Bujarbaruah had lodged an FIR against him alleging that he had made an attempt to assault one of the five persons at the rest house. Marak stated in his complaint that he was at his residence at the time and was shocked to hear about the FIR.
“It is really surprising that such an FIR has been filed against me, in spite of the fact that those people were taken by the police themselves to the police station and it is to be stated that I have never met any of them nor Dr Sandipani Malia Bujarbaruah,” the FIR said.
According to Marak, the FIR was filed against him with the sole intention to tarnish his repute and image for no fault of his. The MLA also assured full co-operation as and when required.
When contacted, the legislator said he had not used any gun as alleged by Dr Bujarbaruah in his FIR. “My PSO was outside and there was no question of using any gun,” he said and added that he had communicated the matter to the Home minister.
