WKH first to set up women complaints panel

NONGSTOIN: West Khasi Hills has become the first district in the State to set up complaints cell under the Prevention of Workplace Sexual Harassment Act, 2013.
Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills Arunkumar Kembhavi has directed setting up Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) as mandated by the Act in every office, including the DC office, or branch of an organisation employing 10 or more employees, to hear and redress grievances pertaining to sexual harassment.
Kembhavi said at the district level, the ‘Local Complaints Committee’ will investigate and redress complaints of sexual harassment of workers in the unorganised sector or in establishments where ICC has not been constituted on account of the establishment having less than 10 employees. The committee at the DC office comprises Balakyntiew Ranee, EAC-West Khasi Hills, as president, Pimillioris Byrsat as supervisory assistant at DC’s office in Nongstoin. Other members are Deisibel Syiemlieh and F. Catherine Rymbai, Advocate, West Khasi Hills, Nongstoin.
Kembhavi said the local complaints committee has been constituted in West Khasi Hills and the members include Spinicy Diengdoh, Nongpyndeng as the president, F.M Lakiang, BDO- Mairang, I.K War, District Social Welfare Officer, lcylda Nongrum, and Fr James Anderson Syiemlieh, Director, NSSS, Nongstoin as members.
