SHILLONG: HSPDP president and Nongkrem MLA, Ardent Basaiawmoit said that raising of the issue of “Good Governance Day” in the Assembly was not meant to tarnish the image of the NDA government at the Centre as alleged by state BJP members.
“It is surprising that the Meghalaya BJP is criticizing the motion raised by me. The Christmas season is usually busy and even December 23 and 24 are hectic,” he said hinting that the observance of ‘Good Governance Day’ on December 23 by the State BJP was still unacceptable to the people. “I am speaking on behalf of all the Christians in India. We have raised a concern. However, it is up to the State BJP to speak to the party high command on this matter,” he said.
Commenting on BJP’s ‘clean politics’ statement, Basaiawmoit said, “I am happy that the call for clean politics is getting louder.” Basaiawmoit, meanwhile, agreed with the BJP that post poll alliance was a better option in the State.
