SHILLONG: The Sohra circle of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has threatened with agitation if state-owned Mawmluh Cherra Cements Limited (MCCL) failed to procure gunny bags within 25 days.
A delegation of KSU members met the general manager of MCCL in Sohra on Thursday. S. Synrem, president of KSU Sohra circle, said, “The GM informed about the technical glitches for the first party (supplier of gunny bags).
However, the company has met a second party and it will take 25 days to prepare gunny bags.”
“We will wait for 25 days as we don’t want the hard-earned money of the people of Sohra to go waste,” he added.
Meanwhile, M. Bynnud, president of KSU South Khasi Hills, said loading of cement at MCCL has stopped as there is inadequate number of gunny bags.
“We want to revive MCCL as people are earning their bread and butter from the cement factory here,” he said and added that the company should have reissued tender to get suppliers of cement bags.
The Sohra Syiemship and the Mawmluh Sirdarship recently issued a statement criticising MCCL for its failure to supply cement on time as it could not procure enough gunny bags.
