Missing man’s body found
SHILLONG: A senior citizen’s body was recovered from Madan Umwang, Block-II area along the Inter-State border on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Samuel Mukhim (65) of Jatalong village under Block-II, police said.However, Assam Police from Karbi Anglong, who first reached the spot for inquiry, took the body to Baithalongso, Assam to complete other formalities. Later, one Hilarius Lynshing (23) filed a complaint at Mawlasnai Outpost that on March 14, his father went missing while returning from Madan Umwang to Jatalong and on March 15 evening. Police suspects it to be a murder case.
Teacher sodomises minor boy
SHILLONG: In yet another case of heinous crime, a school teacher in the city allegedly sodomised a boy in the school residential quarter for as many as six months. Banphanbok Sawian, teacher of Lawmei Secondary School sexually assaulted one sixteen year old boy at the school residential quarters and at Polo ground, from March to September last year, the police said. The accused teacher is absconding and the police are looking for Sawian.
16-year-old raped
SHILLONG: A minor was allegedly raped at a village in Ri Bhoi. On December 24 last, Marius Lamare raped the 16-year-old girl at Syntiewmaw village, police said.
Discussion on State related issues with Guv
SHILLONG: Lieutenant General Depinder Singh Ahuja, general officer commanding 101 Area called on Governor Banwarilal Purohit at the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday. In his interaction, the general officer commanding discussed several relevant issues including the prevailing security situation in the State, empowering the ex servicemen of Meghalaya and solution to the issue of double imposition of excise duty on CSD items at the depot level in Assam and at the retail outlets in Meghalaya and Tripura.
Another tanker overturns
JOWAI: Just two days after three persons were charred to death in a fire involving an oil tanker in Ri Bhoi, another tanker loaded with diesel capsized at Tuber village in East Jaintia Hills on NH-6 on Thursday evening. Fortunately, the driver escaped unhurt while the helper suffered minor injuries. Local residents of Tuber and neighbouring villages and commuters and drivers made merry collecting diesel from the capsized tanker and Ladrymbai police had to rush to the scene to control the mob. According to police, the tanker (NL01 N 8026) was on its way to Silchar when the mishap occurred.
Election postponed
SHILLONG: The Secretary of Arya Samaj, Ravi Kumar Tiwari has informed that the election of the Arya Samaj, Shillong, which was to be held on March 26, has been postponed since the voter list was not in conformity with the membership list. He also said that election officers, who were appointed by general body, have differed the election indefinitely and have resigned from their posts.
Central employees hailed for successful stir
SHILLONG: The Co-ordination Committee of Central Government Employees, Meghalaya has congratulated the rank and file of Central government employees in the State for making the one-day strike on Thursday a splendid success and at the same time asked all staff to be prepared for any future agitation to combat onslaught on employees. It also appealed to the members of public to bear hands with the agitating employees. Further, the Meghalaya MES Union and the Joint Council of Meghalaya Rural Bank Unions also hailed the grand success of the strike.
GNC condemns Resubelpara incident
TURA: The Garo National Council (GNC) has in a late statement condemned the recent police firing incident at Resubelpara which left three persons injured. The GNC urged the police department to maintain the status of departmental investigation in a proper manner as well as to provide necessary aide to the victims without delay.
VDP nabs wanted car lifter in EJH
JOWAI: The Village Defence Party (VDP) of Barato village on Thursday apprehended Fullmoon Laloo – a well known car lifter and a resident of Mowkaiaw – and later handed him over to Khliehriat police.The accused had recently lifted a local cab (Maruti, ML 11 0261) belonging to Ras Dkhar of Wapungshnong village under Ladrymbai police outpost.The vehicle owner claimed that Fullmoon pretended to be friendly with the driver of the local taxi and on January 11 he requested the driver to let him take his vehicle.“Since then Fullmoon has been missing with the vehicle. A complaint was lodged with Ladrymbai police in this regard”, he added.

NONGSTOIN: The foundation stone of RUSA funded project for construction of Boys/Girls Common room was laid by Mutkordor Phanbuh, Retd. secretary of PWD (R&B). Phanbuh lauded the Centre for coming forward and stretching its hand of grace by up-lifting the rural institutions through financial assistance not only for Infrastructural development but also Academic.
