Seng Samla upset over denial to use basketball court

SHILLONG: The Seng Samla Lachumiere on Thursday submitted a letter to the Chief Engineer, State Sports Council of Meghalaya (SSCM) over the recent prohibition by authorities on use of the basketball court adjacent to U Tirot Sing Indoor Stadium.During their meeting with the chief engineer, the youth body was informed that authorities have decided to levy a fee of Rs 300 on those who wish to use the basketball court.
“How will the youth, who are mostly students, be able to afford the fee,” said Elton Cliff Warjri, president of the Seng Samla Lachumiere.
“With spurt in the cases of drugs abuse by our youth sports is the only way out to wean them from this menace,” Warjri said, adding that they have requested the authorities to allow the youths to use the basketball court from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
