DGP to help SCPCR fight crime against women, minors

SHILLONG: The director general of police will collaborate with the State Commissioner for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) to check crime against women and minors.
In his letter to SCPCR chief Meena Kharkongor, acting DGP S.B Singh said he has instructed the deputy inspector of police (Eastern Range) and the deputy inspector of police (Western Range) to direct the SPs
) within their ranges to take strict steps to prevent flesh trade in the city.Kharkongor had written to the DGP about the rising crime against women and children in the city and highlighted the incidents of flesh trade at Marvelene’s Inn, owned by Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh’s family.
She had urged Singh to take steps against the owners of the guest house after a local news channel aired interviews of sex workers who said they frequented the inn at Rilbong.
In his reply, Singh told Kharkongor that police are investigating the flesh trade cases at the inn.
