SHILLONG: From the setting up of the cancer wing in Civil Hospital to the poor health facilities in rural areas, legislators raised various issues concerning the State during the discussion on the Budget in the Assembly on Monday.
Participating at the discussion, Metbah Lyngdoh (UDP) said that the government should expedite the process of setting up of the cancer wing at the Shillong Civil Hospital for the benefit of the public.
Independent legislator Saleng Sangma rued that the agriculture sector is still underdeveloped and transportation of produces remains a major challenge for farmers.
Paul Lyngdoh (UDP) said that cement companies and other industries in the State have acquired more land than they require and the government should keep a check on the matter.
Lyngdoh pointed out that 642 hectares of excess forest land and 802.12 hectares of excess non-forest land was in the possession of cement companies.
Independent legislator Hopeful Bamon said the government should give priority to health facilities in rural areas of the State where poor people are the worst sufferers. He added that the government should ensure proper implementation of Megha Health Insurance Scheme.
