Hailstorm causes destruction in Ri Bhoi

Nongpoh: As many as 40 houses were damaged by the hailstorm at Erpakon village under Umling C&RD Block in Ri Bhoi District, a delayed report said.
The hailstorm accompanied by heavy rain on Saturday evening caused destruction to several houses.
Headman of the village, N. Thongni said that many houses in the village were badly affected by the hailstorm.
“At least 40 houses with the tin roofs of the houses were damaged by the hailstone as big as an egg and two houses were uprooted by the cyclonic hailstorm,” Thongni said, adding that the hailstorm had not only damaged the houses but crops were damaged too.
The official from Umling C&RD Block led by its Gramsevak went to the spot to assess the damages. So far no casualty was reported in this incident.
Other parts of the state also experienced hailstorm and heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday.
A person died in Garo Hills when lightning struck him while attenpting to herd his catlle.
14 villages were affected by the storm in Garo Hills.
