SHILLONG:  The Health and Family Welfare department made a presentation about the much talked Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) before the MLAs of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in the Assembly premises on Monday.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma earlier had mooted the idea of holding a presentation on the MHIS in the presence of MLAs of the Assembly.
The Legislators attending the presentation gave suggestions on how to make the scheme more people friendly so that it can benefit the masses, queries were also raised by them on various segments of the MHIS.
Later, officials informed the MLAs that the enrollment process for MHIS 3 would start by April.
On the other hand, an official informed that the department has got the approval of the Centre for renewal of the existing beneficiaries and they would soon get the approval for the new beneficiaries under this scheme.
However, the policy period for MHIS 2 had expired in October last and since then there has been growing demands from various quarters to initiate the phase 3 of the project since the scheme has benefited many.
MLAs who attend the presentation were pleased with the orientation programme provided by the government.
