SHILLONG: The Opposition UDP legislators, Jemino Mawthoh and Embhalang Syiemlieh, have asked the Government to set up Mawlai Block at Mawlai Mawroh.
The issue related to setting up of the block was raised by Syiemlieh during the question hour in the Assembly on Monday.
In his reply, Community and Rural Development Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said the Government will examine the proposal suggested by the legislator.
According to Syiemlieh, there are already three proposals, one for Mawsiatkhnam as suggested by some traditional heads, another Mawlai Mawtawar and the third is Mawpat.
He said the officers had carried out inspection of the land offered by the three local Dorbars of these areas.
However, Mawthoh said he, along with three other legislators of the adjoining constituencies of Mawlai, A.L Hek, Syiemlieh and David Nongrum, had agreed to setting up of the new block at Mawlai Mawroh.
According to Syiemlieh, the land of the Forest Department at Mawlai Mawroh can be used for the purpose.
He asserted that the block should be within the Assembly constituency of Mawlai.
Earlier, taking part in the discussion on Budget, Syiemlieh said that the headquarters of the proposed Mawlai Block should be located within the boundary of Mawlai.
He also asked the Government to speed up the process of inaugurating the Block.
