SHILLONG: At a time when the case related to flesh trade at Marvelene’s Inn was in progress, officer in charge of Laban police station G.R Marak was transferred recently, sources said on Tuesday.
Moreover, the investigating officer, woman police SI R.C Nongkynrih was also changed and in her place, the new officer in charge of Laban police station, who was transferred from the police headquarters, is currently probing the case related to Marvelene’s Inn run by the family of Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh.
This is the second time that a police officer investigating the rape case involving a 14-year-old girl was transferred in the midst of the inquiry. Earlier, the officer in Charge of Madanrting police station, Inspector B.K Mishra, was transferred evoking criticisms from several quarters.
Sources said the frequent change of officers will affect the flow of investigation, besides giving suspicion of vested interests by higher-ups.
However, an official source said the officer in charge of Laban police station had applied for a transfer to Garo Hills long ago.
The source added that since the section related to immoral trafficking was added to the pending rape case, the present investigation officer was changed as the case under trafficking will have to be probed by an inspector and not a sub inspector.
