Kharkutta police outpost to be upgraded
RESUBELPARA: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will inaugurate Kharkutta police station, which was earlier an outpost, on Saturday, a press release from North Garo Hills SP D.P Marak said. Sangma will be accompanied by Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh and DGP S.B Singh, among others.
JHADC budget session
JOWAI: The Budget session of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) began on Wednesday. JHADC Chairman, Arborhima Darnei informed that the session will end on March 24.
Ri Bhoi village school completes 25 years
Nongpoh: Rangsakona Secondary School in Byrnihat celebrated the opening ceremony of its silver jubilee year on Wednesday. Local MDC Victor Rani lauded the founding members of the school for their efforts and congratulated them for completing 25 years by sailing through several adversities. Rangsakona Secondary School, located at 13 Mile Byrnihat, was established in 1991. The school was started with only a lower primary section providing free education to poor children. As years passed, the school was upgraded to the secondary level in 2014. Senior teachers were felicitated and students performed dance and songs.
Youth clarifies on party membership
TURA: Brian Arengh, whose name was amongst others as ‘Legal Adviser’ in the list of office bearers of the National People’s Party’s Youth Wing in West Garo Hills has clarified that he is not part of the youth body and that he was unaware of his name being included. Arengh’s name was amongst others in the list of office bearers submitted to the NPP office on Tuesday, by the general secretary of the party’s Youth Wing, Rangbath D Sangma.
Awareness programme on Drug Abuse
SHILLONG: The NSS Unit of St. Anthony’s College Extension, Byndihati Campus in collaboration with Umkiang Holy Cross School organised a Drugs Abuse Awareness programme at Umkiang, East Jaintia Hills on March 21, under the leadership of Seven Dar Dkhar, NSS Programme Officer with the coordination of Lumlang Shadap, Assistant Teacher of Umkiang Holy Cross School.
IIM-Myanmar Students Exchange Programme
SHILLONG: Indian Institute of Management, Shillong inaugurated its International Student Exchange Programme on March 21, with Mandalay University in Myanmar. The coursetitled “Refresher Course in Management” is spread over duration of 10 days andaims to facilitate MBA students to understand management through a renewed perspective in tandem with the changing global scenario.
Yoga to prevent diabetes held
SHILLONG: The Art of Living conducted Diabetes Management Demonstration of Yoga alongside Swami Vivekanand Yoga Anusthana Samsthana, Bengaluru on Wednesday at Lumparing Community Hall. The programme will be organised on Sunday again, at 3rd Mile, Upper Shillong and at Rynjah.
Three-day training for producer firms
SHILLONG: A three-day training programme organised by Banker’s Institute of Rural Development focused on the role of board of directors, legal safeguards and financing avenues for producer organisations, among others. The programme, which concluded today, was held at Bakdil Training Centre at Danakgre in Tura. The 50-odd participants from Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills said it was the first-of-its kind training session.
