SHILLONG: With the elections just a year away, the State Congress like other political parties in the state has started their exercise to woo the voters.
The Maheshkhola Congress Block Congress Committee organised a massive public meeting in South West Khasi Hills on Saturday.
The party highlighted its achievements in the state besides slamming the NDA Government over its various moves including the demonetisation.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, PWD Minister and local MLA of Ranikor M.M. Danggo said that the agenda of Congress is development and added that the constituency requires health and connectivity infrastructure.
While refusing to admit that it was a cam-paign, Danggo said that the meeting was conducted only to inform the public about the function and development activities in the state.
Earlier, Minister in charge of Sports and Youth Affairs, Zenith Sangma, who was also present in the meeting, slammed the NDA Government over the demonetisation move and added that it is important to think about the aftermath of such huge steps. Sangma said “The party had held the meeting in Maheshkhola to strengthen its bases in view of the 2018 elections,” adding that it is a regular exercise and now party would have to effectively utilise its time in strengthening of the party before monsoon. According to Sangma, the area needs more deve-lopment since there is hardly any connectivity in the entire area. The meeting was attended by around 4000 people and party explained its ideas and thoughts before the public.
