TURA: A driver from Assam who was abducted by a kidnappers’ gang from Rongsu Rongrigittim village in South Garo Hills on March 23 has managed to escape after sustained police operations forced the perpetrators to flee.
Faruk Ali, driver of a JCB earthmover, who is from Assam’s Barpeta district, was abducted by armed men last week.
Police teams from West Khasi Hills, South and East Garo hills launched simultaneous flush-out operations in the region and managed to intercept a few members of the group who had come to collect the ransom money at a location near Williamnagar town.
Another operation at Seningkre area of west Khasi Hills compelled the abductors to abandon their victim and escape.
