3 charred to death in oil tanker fire

Guwahati: Three persons were charred to death when an oil tanker burst into flames after it rammed into a tree along National Highway 37 in Nagaon district of Assam on Wednesday, police officials said.
The incident occured at Baghjan near Jakhalabandha in the district.
The three persons were in the tanker whose flames also engulfed the tree, gutted three nearby houses and a minibus parked nearby.
The residents however, escaped unhurt, the officials said.
Several fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the flames, the officials said and added that vehicular traffic on the NH-37 was stopped and the area cordoned off till the blaze was brought under control.
One of the dead has been identified as Rajkumar Mahato who was handyman of the oil tanker, the officials said.
The matter is under inquiry. (PTI)
