SHILLONG: There is a dearth of science teachers in the State that is hindering progress in the subject and growth of young minds. The problem was flagged at the state-level Science, Mathematics and environment exhibition for children on Tuesday. Speaking at the valedictory function of the exhibition, Education Secretary W.R Lyngdoh said, “There are great difficulties in getting teachers in the field of science.” Adding that there is a need for students to develop scientific temper for overall progress and development, he said, “We need to conserve resources and fulfil basic necessities, high time to innovate, to come up with new ways and means, new technologies by scientific and mathematical ideas to address such issues as we need to preserve our environment.” He said there should not be confrontation between development and environment as conflicts can cause imbalances in the ecosystem.Altogether 34 schools from all over the state participated in the exhibition.
