EKH police seek VDP help in detecting miscreants

SHILLONG: Village Defence Party (VDP) rally was organised by the East Khasi Hills District Police at Mawngap Mawkharshiing Community Hall.
Speaking in the event, Davis N.R. Marak, I.P.S, Superintendent of Police expressed his happiness attending the first VDP rally of Mawngap Police Station. He urged all the VDPs to help Police in solving crimes and if they need any requirements or help they can approach the Officer in Charge of the concern Police Station.
“Inform the Police about the presence of all contraband and be careful of illegal activities of fraudulent persons promising jobs with the intention to cheat,” Marak said. He told the villagers that if anybody is interested in forming a VDP then they can approach the O/C for all details. Ian Swer, MPS, Deputy Superintendent informed the villagers on the functioning and role of VDP members in prevention and detection of crime. He also suggested to the VDPs to coordinate with the police in the detection of criminal and anti-social elements moving in and around the villages, adding “but do not take law in your own hands and inform the matter to the police for taking legal action.”
A power point presentation was also given on the importance of road safety. The programme was attended by all VDPs falling under Mawngap Police Station and Sohiong Out Post.
