NONGSTOIN: The Dorbar Shnong of Siejlieh village in West Khasi Hills has announced a public rally on April 3 to condemn the murder of Daritngen Syiem whose decomposed body was found buried in the sand along at Umpniang river on Sunday.
The dorbar members met locals on Wednesday morning. Headman S.K Thongni told media persons here that the rally will start from Mawiaban at 10am and it will conclude at Pompor followed by a public meeting.
Pointing out that West Khasi Hills is the only district among the 11 where crime against women is increasing by the day, Thongni said, “Daritngen was a resident of our village and she will get her justice. The rally will condemn those involved in her murder.”
Police are not ruling out rape of the woman before she was killed and buried.
Five rape cases were reported in the district between January 1 and February 23.  Thongni added that if justice is not meted out, then there will be insecurity among young women in the village.
The dorbar also requested all youths of adjoining villages, NGOs, school students, teachers and parents to take part in the rally.
