SHILLONG: The District Council Affairs Department has forwarded  the resignation letter of  GHADC CEM Denang Sangma with recommendations to the Meghalaya Governor on Thursday.
An official of the District Council Affairs Department said that the department received the resignation letter of GHADC CEM as forwarded by West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi and Chairman of the Council Boston Marak.
The District Council Affairs Minister Prestone  Tynsong said that the resignation letter along with the recommendation of the department was  forwarded to the Governor for further action.
Once the Governor accepts the letter, he will fix the date for the election of the new chief executive member (CEM).
However, since the name of the chairman is proposed by the Congress as the next CEM, he has to first resign from the post.
Tynsong said as per rule, the Governor will fix the date for the election of the new CEM to be held on the floor of the House and a special session will be called for the same.
He said according to the rule, the election of CEM, chairman and deputy chairman should be held inside the House.
Till the election of the new CEM, the current chairman can continue as caretaker despite his resignation.
In case the chairman who is projected as the next leader resigns, the deputy chairman will conduct the House during the election of the new CEM.
If there is no deputy chairman, the Government will propose the name of the Deputy Commissioner or Secretary to the Council to chair the House.
