14 more villages get electricity, 230 to go

SHILLONG: Electricity under the the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram JyotiYojna (DDUGJY) has reached 682 of the 912 villages in the State till date.
Till last November, 668 villages got electricity under the scheme. Of the 244 remaining villages, 14 more villages have become part of the scheme.
Earlier, 13,002 villages were given electricity connections under the central Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram JyotiYojna (DDUGJY) in the country.
Out of the remaining 5,450 un-electrified villages, 835 villages are uninhabited.
All the remaining 4,615 un-electrified villages are to be electrified by May 1, 2018.
In view of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s address on Independence Day, the Centre has decided to electrify 18,452 villages in 1,000 days i.e. by May 1, 2018.
The project has been taken on mission mode and the strategy is to squeeze the implementation schedule to 12 months and divide the process into 12-stage milestones with defined timelines for monitoring.
A close monitoring is being done through Gram Vidyut Abhiyanta for fast implementation.
