SHIILLONG: The Shillong airport will be well-connected with neighbouring cities in the North East by the end of the year under the Centre’s UDAN scheme.
Under the UDAN or Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik scheme, the airport will be connected with Agartala, Aizawl, Dimapur, Imphal and Silchar.
Air Deccan will operate from the Shillong airport. Flight services will begin from August.
The State government last week had announced the list of airlines that would be connecting unserved airports in the country. In the first round of bidding, Air Odisha  Aviation had won the bid to connect the maximum number of unserved airports in the country.
Every flight will have 50 per cent low-cost seats of Rs 2,500 per seat under the central scheme. This will be applicable to flights where the distance is less than 500 km or one hour.
Over 45 unserved and under-served airports will be under the scheme that seeks to make flying more affordable.
